Johor Darul Ta'zim F.C. Domestic Strength and Asian Focus

Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) is currently focusing on achieving success on the Asian stage, as stated by Chief Operating Officer Alistair Edwards Harian Metro. Edwards noted that JDT is 'far ahead' of domestic challengers such as Selangor Harian Metro. The club has historically measured its capability against elite Asian teams rather than domestic rivals in the Liga-M Harian Metro.

Domestic Achievements and History

Since its restructuring in 2013, JDT has secured 10 consecutive Super League championships, in addition to winning four domestic trophies in a single season Harian Metro. Furthermore, JDT became the first Southeast Asian club to win the AFC Cup in 2015 Harian Metro. The commitment within the domestic league is directly driven by the club's owner and Deputy Sultan of Johor, Tunku Mahktota Ismail, who expressed a desire for the team to play football that he would 'fall in love with' Harian Metro.

Focus on Asian Competitions

JDT views the AFC Champions League Elite (ACLE) and the Shopee Cup (ASEAN Club Championship) as important platforms because they allow the team to compete against the best Asian teams Harian Metro. The club recently began the ACLE 2026/27 campaign with a draw against Buriram United at home, followed by an impressive away victory against Korea Selatan's Pohang Steelers Media Digital Johor. This victory demonstrated that JDT is operating at a high level in Asia, comparable to the UEFA Champions League Harian Metro. The Stadium Sultan Ibrahim (SSI) is set to host a match in the ACLE 2026/27 against Thailand's Port FC on 6:00 p.m. Media Digital Johor.

Comparison of Perspectives

While one perspective highlights JDT's dominance over domestic rivals, framing it as being 'far ahead' Harian Metro, another emphasizes the tangible proof of their Asian class through results against top teams like Pohang Steelers Media Digital Johor. Both accounts confirm JDT's superior standing, whether measured domestically or regionally.

What This Means for the Searcher

For those interested in JDT, the focus on Asian competitions indicates a strategic ambition beyond local league titles, aiming to establish the club as a major force in Southeast Asian football. Supporters are encouraged to attend matches at Stadium Sultan Ibrahim, where the support of fans is considered critical as the '12th Player' Media Digital Johor.

Our view is that JDT's dual focus—maintaining domestic excellence while aggressively pursuing Asian glory—positions the club strongly for sustained regional influence.

National sporting achievements and regional competition are matters of public interest related to governance.
